HOUSE G

The small settlement 'Am Gersbühl' is located at the southern end of Kempten / Allg. on the edge of an extensive wooded area. Behind the single house development lined up along the thoroughfare, the owners acquired a second row of building plots; after demolition of the dilapidated existing buildings, a villa-like ensemble of buildings was created here, which is oriented towards the existing farmstead structures of the surrounding area and thus reflects the characteristic structural element of the rural settlement area in the Allgäu.

The existing rocky subsoil continues structurally in the base storey made of black-colored exposed concrete. The timber-shingled residential building and the slightly twisted dormitory are positioned on the resulting plateau. Together with the garage block in front of it, this creates a building composition that is staggered in height and almost disappears in the soft landscape of the Gersbühl despite its size.

An external staircase leads via a graveled entrance courtyard with a Japanese feel to the porch, which already focuses on the view of the mountain ranges in the southern Allgäu. In both adjoining parts of the building, black concrete elements permeate all floors, namely a chimney block for the basement, first floor, and roof terrace in the residential building and a bathroom/staircase block in the dormitory on both the first-floor children's level and the parents' level above. The otherwise white surfaces inside the building reinforce the diverse light effects in the varied and complex spatial structure.

The spatial boundary of the property to the south is created by a swimming pool, which also appears as a black plinth structure.
