HOUSE KL

The Rieden district of Osterreinen is located on the picturesque western shore of Lake Forggensee. In the center of the village, there is a remaining plot of land in the middle of a development from the 1970s. This plot was later divided and subsequently released for development with a semi-detached house.

In order to take this into account conceptually, the semi-detached house was designed in analogy to the traditional farmhouses of the region in order to complement the neighboring house, which was (still) to be built in solid construction, with the wooden house KL, similar to the former stable and farm part of a farm. To emphasize this concept, almost all façade openings can be almost completely closed by means of sliding folding shutters, including the loggias on the north and south sides, which are reminiscent of the historic Schwangau arbour type in their design.

The internal structure of the house is grouped with flowing rooms around a four-storey, top-lit staircase core, which gives the semi-detached house a surprisingly spacious feel. Specially developed light cannons on the roof level allow natural light to flood down to the basement. Here, an additional granny apartment develops at an angle around an atrium, which can also be accessed separately from the outside.
